Bursting with fresh ideas through innovative idea-generation techniques and unencumbered by traditional ways of thinking, PAULEY works within a wide range of sectors, bringing the benefits of design-led innovation to companies in the UK and beyond. Although a great deal of our work is carried out in confidence, some of the most recent projects we've been involved with are shown below to give you a flavour of what we do:
Clayton is among the world’s leading rail haulage companies. The company is global market leader for provision of locomotives in above and below ground applications. Clayton came to PAULEY for advice on enhancing its brand image and making better use of its multi-media resources for engaging employees and customers with the Clayton message and sales proposition.
PAULEY created a suite of recommendations to help Clayton improve the strength of its brand image, engage customers more effectively and improve its training capabilities through 3D digital modelling.
In particular, PAULEY recommended a multi-media DVD featuring a comprehensive range of interactive promotional tools for the Clayton sales force to use at exhibitions, on the road and in the office. By digitally modelling the company’s range of locomotives, PAULEY created interactive training modules aimed at keeping customers and staff better informed and up-to-date. Development of innovative rail haulage concept designs helped Clayton communicate its market leading status to key stakeholders.
Recommendations for changes to the company’s colour-scheme and promotional materials, including emails and brochures, gave Clayton the power to capitalise further on the strength of its global brand.

Eurostar International is responsible for maintaining all the Eurotunnel train stock travelling from England to France. Their engineering base in London employs NVQ level apprentices and a crew of experienced staff to maintain the stock. Every member of staff is required to undergo regular training sessions to ensure they maintain the skills required for the job.
This process can be costly, and tricky, as training has to take place on power cars that are currently in service, and are required on short notice to return to service.
After collaborating with Eurostar to find innovative ways around the problem, PAULEY stepped in with an interactive training solution, which would allow staff to be re-tested on various Critical Safety Exam's without the need for a real train. Saving time, money and difficult scheduling issues, the Interactive Training Program included an accurate, interactive 3D model of a Eurostar train power car.
Eurostar is now able to re-train staff more regularly, for less money, and in a more efficient and user friendly manner.
Gearbox manufacturer Allison Transmission was founded in 1915 and prides itself on its history of refining and improving the performance of its products. It had developed an innovative Vehicle Acceleration Control (VAC) transmission unit which would increase fuel efficiency at stop/start and on inclines.
However, the company struggled to show potential customers how the VAC system would work in practice. PAULEY produced a 3D animation to show how the system worked on a mechanical level during a delivery using a small truck.
Armed with an easy way to explain the system to customers, Allison Transmission was able to push ahead with a successful sales campaign for the VAC system. Our work for Allison Transmission highlighted the power of innovation to solve existing problems. Too often, the power of innovation to improve existing products or situations is overlooked. The A3 Tablet Book design is the latest innovative concept from PAULEY, this time in the world of personal computing. A sense for what customers want is key to creating valuable ideas within the innovation process. With its extra large Dual format A3 screen, the Tablet is flexible and fast. Designed by Phil Pauley, the tablet is capable of folding in half to form a book or laptop, and can be laid flat to view video on the extra large screen. This gives users unparalleled ease of viewing.
In order to show the full range of functions of the book, Phil needed a fast and effective video, which could showcase what the tablet could do. We took Phil's design and created a 3D visualisation which showcased interaction with the user on this innovative design.
Somerset House Trust was established in July 1997 to conserve and develop the historic and beautiful Somerset House in London, and the open spaces around it, for the public. However, inside the building is a complex maze of corridors and rooms, all confusingly connected by staircases and lifts. Visitors continually had problems finding their way round which meant staff were constantly having to direct lost newcomers.
After analysing the situation in search of innovative solutions, PAULEY decided to take Somerset House staff out of the problem, freeing them up to get on with work. We produced an interactive 3D layout of the floor-plan for the Somerset House website and for interactive screens within the building.
The result was that new visitors could navigate by themselves, always getting to the right office. What's more, staff were free to get on with work rather than helping visitors round the maze of corridors.
AV Network offers audio-visual exhibition services at major corporate stage shows, international product launches and presentations. When it came to attracting new business, the company wanted an attention-grabbing way to promote its unique modular stage design to clients on its exhibition stands.
